Workshop Topics:
How is ELD defined in Arizona schools?
The purpose of this meeting is to inform districts of current ELD regulations and any anticipated changes in the English Language Learner laws. Individual district needs and challenges with the ELD process will be assessed and identified for assistance with strategies and programming options. This session is part of a Title III consortium meeting.
Research-based Strategies to Use with Second Language Learners
How does today’s teacher meet the needs of diverse learners while following federal and state guidelines for ELL learners? This workshop offers hands-on activities, application, and research-based strategies that can be helpful with second language learners in K-12 classrooms.
Sheltered English Instruction 45 Augment
Implementing SEI strategies requires some new ways of thinking and teaching, but once teachers and administrators come to understand SEI, they see it as a positive and effective vehicle for helping ELLs learn English more quickly and more successfully. This workshop is designed to provide participants with an overview of the background and need for SEI and effective strategies for working with second language learners. This course meets Arizona’s requirements for the provisional SEI endorsement.
English Language Proficiency Standards
The ELP standards are designed for teachers to help English Language Learners (ELLs) become fluent in English as quickly as possible. Mastery of the Arizona ELP standards helps students gain a linguistic foundation in English that will help with understanding content area instruction such as math, science, and social science. This workshop is designed to give participants an understanding of the organization and implementation of the English Language Proficiency Standards.
Individual Language Learner Plans (ILLP)
Schools with 20 or fewer ELLs within a three grade span may provide instruction through the development of Individual Language Learner Plans (ILLPs) created for each ELL. Learn the guidelines, format, and strategies for working with students who are on ILLP’s.
Sheltered English Instruction 45 Complete
Designed to provide participants with an overview of the foundation and need for SEI and realistic strategies for working with second language learners, this course meets Arizona’s requirements the complete SEI endorsement.
