    What is a QR code?  A QR code is a barcode.  They are different from the standard barcode in two ways.  First, they contain much more information than a regular barcode.  Second, they do not require a big bulky scanner to read them.  A person's smartphone can read the barcode.  Kent State University has found a unique way to use QR codes in education.  Check out their link at http://www.rcet.org/geohistorian.
